Planning a journey from Guwahati to Anini in Arunachal Pradesh? Understanding the road distance, travel time, available transport options and overnight stops will help you plan a comfortable trip.

The Guwahati to Anini distance depends on the route you choose. A more direct road journey through Upper Assam and Roing is generally shorter, while the route via Kaziranga, Dibrugarh and Roing covers approximately 825–905 km, based on estimated road segments.

Some online route planners estimate around 775–800 km for a more direct journey. Actual distance can vary with the road selected, diversion points and starting location.

Anini is the headquarters of Dibang Valley district in Eastern Arunachal Pradesh. Surrounded by mountains, rivers and remote valleys, it attracts travellers interested in scenic road journeys and lesser-explored destinations.

At Northeast Advisor, we organise trips to Anini and have travelled the route ourselves. This guide combines practical route information with our firsthand September travel experience.

Guwahati to Anini Road Route

There are two practical approaches to planning the road journey from Guwahati.

1. Guwahati to Anini via Upper Assam

Travellers primarily interested in reaching Anini can travel towards Upper Assam without scheduling a stay at Kaziranga.

A typical route is:

Guwahati  → Dibrugarh  → Roing → Mayodia Pass → Hunli  → Anini

The exact route through Assam can differ depending on road conditions and navigation preferences.

This is a suitable option for visitors who want to focus their holiday on Dibang Valley rather than additional sightseeing in Assam.

2. Guwahati to Anini via Kaziranga

Travellers interested in wildlife can include Kaziranga National Park before continuing towards Anini.

The suggested sightseeing route is:

Guwahati → Kaziranga → Jorhat → Sivasagar → Dibrugarh → Tinsukia →  Roing → Mayodia Pass  → Anini

This is the route followed by Northeast Advisor's eight-day Guwahati-to-Anini package.

How Many Days Are Required to Reach Anini from Guwahati?

The Guwahati-to-Anini journey is long, particularly because the mountain section beyond Roing takes considerably more time than a similar distance on a highway.

Travellers should ideally divide the journey across multiple days.

For visitors combining Kaziranga and Anini, overnight stops at Kaziranga and Dibrugarh are practical.

The Dibrugarh-to-Anini section can be completed in one long driving day when conditions permit. However, travellers who prefer shorter drives can stay overnight in Roing before continuing towards Anini.

The best arrangement depends on your arrival time, available days and comfort with mountain travel.

For travellers interested in a planned journey including Kaziranga, explore our Guwahati to Anini Tour Package – 8 Days / 7 Nights.

How to Reach Anini from Guwahati

Travellers can combine road, rail or air transportation to reach Anini. However, the final journey into Dibang Valley is generally completed by road.

Guwahati to Anini by Road

Road travel offers flexibility for families, couples and small groups.

Travellers can arrange a private vehicle from Guwahati and continue through Upper Assam towards Roing and Anini.

A private SUV such as a Mahindra Bolero or Toyota Innova is a practical choice with an experienced mountain driver.

Based on our operational experience, we recommend a maximum of three travellers plus the driver in a Bolero and five travellers plus the driver in an Innova for better comfort and luggage space.

Because the journey involves long driving hours, comfortable seating is especially important.

Guwahati to Anini by Bus

A dependable current direct bus timetable covering the complete Guwahati-to-Anini journey has not been confirmed.

Travellers can explore available bus connections towards Roing and arrange onward transportation to Anini.

The Dibang Valley district administration lists an APSTS bus service between Roing and Anini, introduced in January 2021. Shared Sumo services are also mentioned.

However, travellers should confirm current operations, departure times and seat availability before relying on these services.

Public transport may require additional waiting time or overnight stops.

Guwahati to Anini by Train

Anini does not have a railway station.

Travellers can take a train from Guwahati towards Upper Assam and continue by road.

According to the Dibang Valley district administration, Tinsukia is the nearest railway station to Anini.

From Tinsukia, travellers can arrange transportation towards Roing and continue into Dibang Valley.

For further information, read our Tinsukia to Anini Distance and Travel Guide.

Guwahati to Anini by Flight

Anini does not have a regular commercial airport offering direct scheduled passenger flights from Guwahati.

The nearest major airport commonly used for Anini trips is Dibrugarh Airport, also known as Mohanbari Airport.

Travellers can reach Dibrugarh by air, subject to available flight connections, and continue towards Roing and Anini by road.

Because the onward journey is long, an early arrival or an overnight stay in Dibrugarh is recommended.

Is Helicopter Connectivity Available to Anini?

The Dibang Valley district administration lists seasonal summer helicopter connectivity from Naharlagun to Anini via Pasighat, Mohanbari and Roing.

However, this does not guarantee that passenger services will operate on a particular travel date.

Travellers should confirm the current route, schedule and availability with the relevant authorities before planning helicopter travel.

Dibrugarh to Anini: Our Firsthand September Road Experience

During our September visit, we started from Dibrugarh at approximately 5:00 AM and reached Anini around 4:00 PM.

The journey took approximately 11 hours, including breakfast, lunch and short photography stops.

Our first major stop was Roing, where we reached around 7:30–8:00 AM. We had breakfast, purchased snacks and continued towards Anini before 9:00 AM.

We then stopped briefly at Mayodia Pass for photographs.

For lunch, we stopped at a small settlement locally known as 65, where local eateries offered rice, roti, vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals, Maggi and tea.

During this journey, the most difficult road conditions were between Hunli and Ranli (Rali), primarily because of road construction.

After Ranli, the road conditions improved significantly. We stopped for tea and snacks before continuing through Etalin towards Anini.

This was our actual September experience. Road conditions, food availability and travel time can change between seasons and as construction progresses.

For a more detailed explanation of this mountain journey, read our Dibrugarh to Anini Distance, Route and Road Conditions Guide.

Roing to Anini Road Conditions

The road from Roing to Anini is the most demanding section of the journey.

Based on our firsthand travel experience:

  • Roing to Mayodia: Generally good road conditions, although weather can cause temporary disruptions.

  • Mayodia to Hunli: Winding mountain roads and changing terrain.

  • Hunli to Ranli (Rali): The most difficult stretch during our September visit because of road construction.

  • Ranli (Rali) to Anini: Comparatively good road conditions during our journey.

Road maintenance, construction, landslides and rainfall can affect these conditions.

Travellers should start early, check local advisories and avoid unnecessary night driving.

For information focused specifically on this section, read our Roing to Anini Distance and Travel Guide.

Mobile Network and Travel Essentials

Mobile network connectivity can be inconsistent between Roing and Anini.

During our September journey, Airtel worked comparatively better, although network coverage was intermittent.

We recommend downloading offline maps and saving accommodation contact numbers before travelling.

Carry drinking water, snacks, personal medicines, warm clothing, a waterproof jacket and sufficient cash for expenses in remote areas.

Soft-sided luggage is generally more convenient when travelling with a group in an SUV.

Best Time to Travel from Guwahati to Anini

November to March is generally a favourable period for travellers who want to combine Kaziranga National Park with Anini.

Kaziranga is usually within its main tourism season, while Anini experiences cooler mountain weather.

October and April can also be considered, depending on road conditions and travel preferences.

September offers green landscapes and attractive waterfall views, but rainfall can still affect road accessibility.

During the monsoon and immediately afterwards, waterfalls around Anini can be particularly impressive. However, heavy rain can also cause landslides and travel delays.

Winter may bring fog, cold weather and occasional snowfall around higher mountain sections such as Mayodia.

Always check current conditions before departure.

Places to Visit in Anini

Travellers visiting Anini can explore grasslands, viewpoints, riverside campsites and waterfalls.

During our September trip, we visited Emuli Grassland, Karu Viewpoint, Dree Afra, Matu Luxe Adventure Resort, Chigu and Mawu Waterfall.

Based on our experience, these attractions can generally be covered across two sightseeing days.

Emuli Grassland and Karu Viewpoint

Emuli Grassland is located within the broader Mathu Valley area.

The uphill walk takes approximately 20 minutes one way, with some steep sections.

A local guide is mandatory based on our local arrangements. During our visit, the charge was Rs. 2,000 per day for the entire group, not per person.

Blackflies were a concern during our September visit, so we recommend wearing full-length clothing and applying insect repellent.

Travellers can start around 8:00–9:00 AM, return to Anini around noon and explore Karu Viewpoint during the afternoon.

Dree Afra, Matu Luxe, Chigu and Mawu Waterfall

These attractions can be covered in a single day under suitable conditions.

Dree Afra offers campsite accommodation and seasonal outdoor activities.

Matu Luxe Adventure Resort is located in front of Matu Waterfall. During our visit, it offered accommodation and restaurant facilities without an entry fee for day visitors.

Chigu is known for its surrounding waterfalls and campsite accommodation. During our September visit, electricity was supplied through a generator for limited hours, and mobile connectivity was unavailable.

Mawu Waterfall involves a relatively easy walking trail of approximately 15 minutes one way from the roadside.
